Terms of Service
Last updated 1 August 2026
These terms apply to the Fovea app and to this website. By using either, you accept them.
What Fovea is
Fovea is a reading app for iPhone and iPad. It displays text one word at a time with the optimal recognition point held at a fixed position, and it also offers a normal paginated reading mode. It includes a catalog of original book summaries.
Your own books
You can import your own files in EPUB, Markdown or plain text. Those files remain entirely yours. Importing and reading your own content is free forever. You are responsible for holding the rights to the files you import.
The summaries
Every summary published in Fovea is an independent work, written from scratch in our own words. A summary is not the book, is not an abridgement of the book, and reproduces no part of the author’s text. Summaries are not written by, affiliated with, or endorsed by the authors or publishers of the books they discuss. Cover art is generated for Fovea and is never the book’s real jacket.
Summaries are for information. They are not a substitute for reading the book, and we make no claim that any summary is complete or free of error.
Subscriptions
Fovea Pro is an auto-renewing subscription sold through the App Store. Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase. It renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and your Apple ID is charged for renewal within 24 hours of the end of that period. You manage and cancel your subscription in your Apple ID account settings, not in the app. Any unused part of a free trial is forfeited when you buy a subscription. Refunds are handled by Apple under its own policy.
Acceptable use
Do not attempt to extract, copy, redistribute or resell the summary catalog, and do not attempt to circumvent the access controls that protect paid content. Do not use Fovea to infringe anyone’s rights.
Our content
The Fovea name, mark, app and summary catalog are ours and are protected by copyright and trade mark law. Your subscription grants you a personal, non-transferable right to read the catalog in the app, and nothing more.
Availability and liability
Fovea is provided as it is. We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted or error free, and we may change or discontinue features. Keep your own copies of files that matter to you. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited, including your statutory rights as a consumer.
Ending your use
You may stop using Fovea and delete your account at any time from within the app. We may suspend an account that breaches these terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by Swiss law. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live.
